it was a licensed event and therefore they could stop whoever they didn't like. Can this be correct?
Events where alcohol is served have to be licenced. A number of public and private areas where events are held have licences which come into force when events are in progress. This area has at least 3 licenced market squares, several licenced lengths of street, a variety of licenced fields, a licenced lake ... Effectively they are occasional premises licences and licensing laws & regulations apply to them when events are taking place.
