If at any point in your obviously sad existence you have to travel around the town by car then you will know precisely what I mean. So stop being a dick, what?
Obviously...

Actually, I find myself in the unenviable position of having to 'travel around the town by car' three times a week ATM and am still none the wiser.

You didn't answer any of my questions, so your ad hominem hangs like a hanging thing.

Those new traffic lights on the Gaol roundabout by the Element 5 gym. The old signal head next to the gym used to point towards traffic coming around the roundabout from Gaol road direction. They've turned this 70° clockwise so the new lights are pointing towards the traffic coming southbound from the A34. So they have 4 traffic light heads pointing towards the southbound A34 and only 2 pointing towards traffic on the actual roundabout from Gaol Road. All the other Gaol roundabout junctions have at least 3 signal heads. So this is either a mistake or intended. We may get 3 traffic signals turning green and the one next to Element 5 turning red for the northbound traffic. That will make things juicy. With only 2 traffic signals at the other stop line, drivers will have difficulty cricking their necks up to see them as they are currently positioned. I'm convinced this is an error.
Someone clearly has read my post and now rectified the issue.

Does this mean the Barley Mow will be relocated to the current Poundland shop up town for a temporary time, with the church opposite providing comfort to those who miss the stench of the Wimpey bar by issuing essence of chip fat oil.
The Barley Mow are contesting the necessity of having to close because of the potential overgrowth of grass verges during the works to the water pump station.

The Barley Mow, as it is today, can be relocated to Mars. It will be no great loss.

Baswich Ward Matters

Dear Residents
The work from Radford Bank A34 to town will start just before the school holidays.
Chell Rd and the Wolverhampton Rd will completed before then.
This scheme will take 9 to 12 months to complete and cost in the region of £6million.
I am working closely with the Highways Dept at County to try to minimize the disruption and hopefully some of the work will be done in the evenings.
The bridge near Aldi has to have a great deal of work done in it.
Given some thought it might be able to be done with Traffic Lights synchronized correctly. If not the road will have to closed for a short period.
I share your concerns of the impact it will have on the area and the disruption it will cause. However with the continual demand of road repairs in order to elevate ourselves from this continued disruption the work needs to be done.
No date has been fixed yet but a public consultation will be held to listen to people’s thoughts ideas and concerns.
Cllr. Ann Edgeller

Bit slow on the stone rd, quite amusing that using the M6 to get from one end of town to the other actually makes sense.
I often use that TBH, town is terrible lately, but even getting off Holmcroft is now more difficult due to queues onto the eccy road sometimes going back past first avenue from people trying to get from the A34 to the M6.

From Holmcroft Road, cutting down Young Avenue and Pitt Street will bring you onto the Alliance Street Expressway and away you go.

TBH I usually try to escape North, otherwise I hit the Gaol Square nonsense. Of course even that now means a diversion as I can't get onto the A34 without going back to the Shite Horse first.

Town's roadworks are mental torture - traders

    • Businesses owners said they feared their town was "dying" amid a series of roadworks that have been damaging their trade for years.
Work has been taking place on a number of roads in Stafford, including on the A34, A513 Beaconside, A449 Wolverhampton Road, Doxey Road and Chell Road.
Residents said the closures and temporary traffic lights put in place as a result had caused widespread disruption, with some telling the BBC they felt like moving house.
Staffordshire County Council said it understood the frustration and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
Kully, from the Windmill Fish Bar on Castle Hill, just off Doxey Road, said she only found out about the nine-month work to create a new cycle lane when the signs were going up.
As well as the disruption leading to fewer customers visiting the fish bar, she also spoke of the noise made while workers were on site.
“It’s affecting the businesses so much. This is my livelihood. It really is financially damaging my business,” she told BBC Midlands Today.
She added that it had been “mental torture” for the businesses in the area and there had been no help for those affected.
Greg Burgher

Greg Burgher said the roadworks in Stafford were "horrendous"
Greg Burgher, who runs GBD Rescue and Recovery Stafford, said some of the roadworks had been going on for longer than he could remember.
“It’s long enough for you to get used to there being roadworks everywhere now and it shouldn’t be like that,” he said.
“Stafford used to be a great town and at the minute it’s horrendous. It makes me feel like I want to move out of town.”
Resident Darren said: “It’s carnage. I’ve lived here all my life – born and bred in Stafford. Stafford town is dying from all the shops closing down but who would want to come to Stafford with all the roadworks?”

The council said it understood the frustration the work had caused
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways Mark Deaville said: “I fully understand the frustration these road improvements are causing and apologize for the inconvenience to drivers.”
But he said residents had told the authority that the quality of the county’s roads was a priority to them and that carrying out the works “often causes delays”.
“I sympathize with drivers, residents and businesses. It is most important that we work with them throughout this period and we will be issuing regular updates on the works,” he added.
