Went to see Kelly Jones (Stereophonics) at Birmingham Town Hall last night and everyone was handed little plastic bags and told they had to put their phones in them.
The stewards were quite insistent that all phones had to be kept in the bags throughout the concert and told people off if they dared to so much as look to see what the time was, etc.
When Kelly came on he explained the reason for the bags was so that the audience could immerse themselves in the music and forget about their usual daily issues.
Being a bit sceptical I thought the reasons might be for commercial/monetary greed reasons but upon reflection it was actually a pleasant change not to see hundreds of phones being held up in front of you whilst trying to watch and listen.
